Today is World Water Day. Listen to Lido Pimienta‘s latest single about the ongoing water crisis happening globally.
Although this is the first release from the Colombia native in six years she remained a powerful name in Toronto with her activism and speaking out about the inclusivity (or lack there of) in the local music scene. With the new record La Papessa set for release later this year, Pimienta uses her musical talent to spend her message, mostly about the treatment of indigenous people in Canada and the damage done to them but also about the ongoing water crisis. In “Agua” the singer reflects on her days at the effected La Guajira in her home country by saying, “”This song is about rescuing water, giving her a song – canto – al – agua – to protect her, so that she can protect us.”
The poppy, electro beat track flows with bright and lucid vocals and is filled with rich percussions that skip and pulse throughout. Give it a listen while you wait for the upcoming album’s 2016 release.
